The Valese foundry is the last remaining foundry in Venice. Recently taken over by Carlo Semenzato, it continues the traditional manufacturing process for brass and bronze: incandescent molten metal is poured into molds using the sand casting method. In the centrally-located shop in the San Marco area you can find classic Venetian objects: 60 different models of the Horses of Saint Mark, various types of moretti (Moors) and, naturally, the symbol of the city, the Lion of Saint Mark. But Valese also produces ferri da gondola, the distinctive metal ornaments at the bow of the gondola and complex objects such as chandeliers and fittings. For an exclusive touch for your home there are door knockers, door knobs and handles which can also be made to order.
